The family of a firefighter who died from the personal injuries he sustained in a Northern California helicopter crash in August has filed suit.
The family of 25-year-old Scott Charlson has filed suit against Carson Helicopters, Sikorsky, the manufacturer of the helicopter, and General Electric, the manufacturer of the engine.
On August 5, the helicopter was transporting crews from a wildfire in a rugged area of the Siskiyou-Trinity national forest at the time of the crash. Nine people died in the crash, including seven firefighters, the pilot, and a U.S. Forest Service employee.
According to a preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board, the helicopter’s main rotor lost power during takeoff.
The suit alleges negligence in the helicopter’s design and manufacture, maintenance, and operation.
